CAN YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD YOU SOLD IN THE SHOP? AND THE LAST?
It was a copy of a Aphex Twin’s “Selected Ambient Works” to an actual 80s pop star!
DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD SHOP YOU WENT TO? AND YOU DO YOU REMEMBER THE FIRST RECORD YOU BOUGHT?
We didn’t have a record shop in my childhood village so I had to cycle to Our Price in Epsom or Leatherhead. The nearest independent was a longer bike ride to Dorking, but they’d get the limited picture discs and stuff...
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE RECORD SHOP (APART FROM YOUR OWN!) AND WHY?
For new records, Resident in Brighton do it well. Well stocked, friendly service, instores, good online offering etc
WHAT’S YOUR MOST MEMORABLE RECORD STORE EXPERIENCE?
Having local heroes Slaves (now Soft Play) playing here in the shop to 50 people!
WHAT'S THE BEST GIG YOU'VE EVER BEEN TO?
I like a good combination:
Jesus And Mary Chain, Blur, My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr all together at Brixton in 1992.
Nirvana, Mudhoney and Tad at The Astoria in 1989. Smashing Pumpkins supported by (The) Verve. REM supported by Radiohead. They were all pretty good.
WHAT'S YOUR ALL-TIME FAVOURITE RECORD?
My favourite album ever would be Sonic Youth Daydream Nation. My favourite in the 7 years of the shop’s existence (So far) is Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher.
