ALBUM OF THE MONTH: KACEY MUSGRAVES - MIDDLE OF NOWHERE
Somewhere in the middle of nowhere…
Kacey Musgraves’ sixth album, Middle of Nowhere, takes its name from a sign in her hometown of Golden, Texas: “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.”
Written following a breakup, the record reflects a period of solitude that she says, “actually felt incredible… existing in a space not defined by anyone else.” Middle of Nowhere leans into that freedom, blending a love of Texas dancehall and two-stepping with humorous takes on the human condition, while moving easily between traditional country and broader regional influences, including Norteño and Zydeco.
Recorded across Texas, Tennessee and Mexico, the album features Western instrumentation such as pedal steel, accordion and dancehall rhythms. Produced with longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, it includes appearances from Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings and Gregory Alan Isakov.
