ALBUM OF THE MONTH: YARD ACT - YOU'RE GONNA NEED A LITTLE MUSIC

July 2, 2026

TIME FOR A LITTLE MUSIC...

Landing in record shops across the UK this July, You're Gonna Need A Little Music - the third album from Leeds post-punk favourites Yard Act - is Record Store Day's Album of the Month!

Released via Island/EMI Records, the album follows 2024's Top Five hit Where's My Utopia? and the Mercury Prize-nominated The Overload. For the first time, the quartet - James Smith, Ryan Needham, Sam Shipstone and Jay Russell - made the whole record together as a live band in one room, recording between Leeds and LA with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Nine Inch Nails, Beck, St. Vincent).

It's their most dynamic and collaborative record yet, swinging from the ferocity of lead single 'Redeemer' to the sleazy disco strut of the title track, before closing on a note of hard-won optimism with 'Over The Barrel'. "I still have a bit of hope in me for how it all works out," says frontman James Smith. It may be their darkest record yet, but true to his word, it still ends with hope.

You're Gonna Need A Little Music is released July 17 and will be available from Independent record shops on limited edition red and black marble vinyl.
